Throwing Kids Birthday Parties in Wilmington

May is birthday month in our house.  Three of the four of us have birthdays in May (plus my sister-in-law and brother-in-law!) so it’s pretty crazy around here. Last year for our son’s birthdays, we hit the road and went to Tweetsie Railroad park in Boone and had such a great trip.  Besides going to the park – which was much nicer than I expected! – we also took great walks along trails near the Blue Ridge Parkway.  On the way home, we stopped at Pilot Mtn and hiked around there.  It was a wonderful trip which we hoped to do again this year.  Alas, the boys wanted a birthday party instead.  So we embarked on planning a birthday party here in Wilmington. We knew we didn’t want to do a party that involved a pack of 4-8 year old boys at our house so we brainstormed where else we could have the party in Wilmington on some kind of budget. We’ve been to a ton of really fun parties around town so we looked into a lot of options including:

Jungle Rapids

The Kids Jungle, laser tag, arcade, rock climbing, or go karts (this one was too hard to coordinate with the different age groups we were dealing with)

Website

Scooter’s

Roller rink where kids can bring their own bikes, trikes, skateboards, roller blades, and toys on wheels

Website

Simply Play

Drop-in child care center that has birthday parties on Sunday’s

Chuck E. Cheese’s

You know the place – little kids arcade, pizza, singing mouse, and ticket blaster

Carolina Gymnastics

We love birthday parties at this gymnastics facility. One highlight is the rope swing into the foam ball pit!

City or County Park

Hugh McRae, Empie Park, Halyburton Park, or Wrightsville Beach Park are all great places for an outdoor party. You can find information on Wilmington area parks in our Parks and Rec section.

Karate Party

We haven’t been to a Karate party but we know a friend who had one and said it was really great.  You’ll have to let me know who hosts Karate birthday parties.

There’s also a whole category of birthday party entertainment – music, magic, ice cream trucks, bounce houses, theme parties, and more.

These have been some of our favorite birthday parties around town.  Let me know if you need any more info or links to these businesses.  Also let me know if you have a new suggestion for the list. I’d love to hear your ideas and experiences!

Happy Birthday Party Planning!! You can find additional information and resources on kids activities in Wilmington on our blog and our main kids page.
