There are tons of options and it’s fun to check out all that Wilmington has to offer, including some of the most excellent golf courses around, many of which have achieved national recognition for their exceptional layout and design. Here are some premier, award-winning greens for casual and professional golfers alike.
Beau Rivage Golf Course & Resort
This elegant, 18-hole course earned a 4-star rating from Golf Digest, and is the closest and most accessible golf spot for those wishing to visit Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Fort Fischer. This course features meticulously maintained greens known for their smoothness and speed, a beautiful clubhouse and dining facility, challenging elevation changes, diving ranges, a superior chipping and pitching area, and some of the most remarkable vistas anywhere in the area. It also offers a Golf School for beginners, which is available year-round with a one-day or more intensive three-day training program.
Cape Fear National
Located in scenic Brunswick Forest, Cape Fear is one of Wilmington’s youngest golf destinations, and has been recognized by GolfWeek and Golf Magazine as one of the best new courses anywhere in the country. On a more local scale, though, the course is widely known for being among the most brilliantly picturesque courses around, featuring sweeping green hills, large patches of maple, oak, and magnolia trees, blooming wildflowers, and its three signature waterfalls. The course’s clubhouse doubles as a fully stocked pro-shop loaded with gear, and it boasts several indoor and outdoor dining areas, perfect for rehearsal dinners, anniversaries, or birthday parties. All of this, combined with its very close proximity to downtown Wilmington, makes it a can’t-miss course.
Cooper and his Uncle Cleary
Wilmington Municipal Golf Course
The Wilmington muni course is really nice and really inexpensive. The course was designed by Donald Ross in 1926 to provide the public with a quality, championship 18 hole golf course at affordable prices. The fees for city residents are $15.00 weekday and $18.00 weekend for 18 holes walking or $11.00 weekday and $12.00 weekend for 9 holes walking. Cart fees are $11 per round for residents under 65. If you’re planning to play a lot of golf and don’t want to break the bank, then this is the way to go.
