Programs at Halyburton Park

In addition to the free, outdoor resources offered at Halyburton Park, the City of Wilmington runs a number of Nature Programs for kids, families, and adults. They have a prechool program to teach kids about the things and animals they find in nature. The leader reads a story then bring the kids outside on a nature walk to look for plants and animals to go with the day’s theme. Then they head back inside to do a relevant craft. Sometimes the leader brings out animals, such as turtles and snakes, for the kids to see up close.

One popular such tour is the Full Moon Kayak Trip to Rice and Town Creek along the Cape Fear River complete with a campfire and s’mores!
